10 years today. The grief hit me like a brick wall yesterday. I don't know why, for sure, but I feel like it's the losses stacking up over the years with some really tough ones in the last year or so. The losses combined with all of the memories and milestones that she missed. And some happenings in life and in my heart that really had me wishing I could talk to her again
From the very beginning, I was more blessed than any single person could ever deserve. To be born to Wanda and Jimmy Newcomb was the best anyone could ever get. Mama was an incredible human being. She loved the Lord; she loved her family; she loved her friends, her church, her students, her neighbors. She loved. That's the best way I can describe it.
Tell the people you love that you love them. Then live it out in your actions. Make that phone call, write a letter, make a trip to pay a visit. None of us knows how much time we have left. Care about the people around you, whether they're a stranger or not. The world could use a lot more hearts like Mama's.
Until we meet again or Christ returns to make all things new, I love you, Mama, and I miss you now more than ever.
